RayatHouse is dream of mine. I've felt like I've been disconnected my entire life. I've felt disconnected from my heritage as a Jamaican, because my parents moved to the US before I was born. I've felt disconnected from Black American culture because I grew up in the suburbs and only went to predomimantly white schools. Now that I've begun to find myself, I've felt disconnected from my family because they don't want to accept all of who I am. It's very frustrating. Every time I taste community, it reminds me that I've never felt 'at home' before. I want to build that home for myself, and for other Black queer artists with similar experiences. After searching for just a few weeks, I'm sure they're out there. I'm going to keep being myself, and keep putting myself in community with them, and I believe that eventually we'll find each other.

So what kind of stuff is RayatHouse gonna do?

• I have no idea(That is to say, the energy, activities, and schedule of RayatHouse should be a product of its members, so I expect it ot evolve and develop as new members join). But till then,
• Weekly zoom calls that will consist of
  • 1. Weekly check ins(How've you been, how's your area, family drama, new achievements, etc)
  • 2. Art Check ins(Show off what you've been working on! It is totally cool if you haven't been working on anything lately, just your presence is appreciated)
  • 3. "Any requests?" (Since it is a home + art collective, I expect people to request assistance on larger scale projects. This will be the time where we "pitch" projects to ask for help, orrr present an unfinished idea to see if other people want to cocreate it, orrrrr get a second opinion on an idea, orrrrrrr Bring up someone who you'd like to invite to the collective)
  • 4. Just a note- If you can't make it for a check in PLEASE LET US KNOW!!!!! One of the points of having a home is that we'll miss you when you're not there, please send a message and give us a heads up O,_ O
